U13 Vs Cobh

posted 11 Aug 2014, 00:23 by Pro Killeagh Camogie

Our u13s took to the field again on the bank holiday Monday below in Cobh. We were low on numbers due to injuries and holidays but credit to those who made the effort to travel. Due to our limited numbers we agreed to play 11 a side we started well with Elena registering our first score with a well taken point she added two more before Cobh levelled with a well taken goal they quickly added another before Elena scored her fourth point of the night but Cobh had the last say on the score board before half time when they added a point to leave them ahead 2:1 to 0:4.

We started the second half strongly with another point from Elena before Saoirse got off the mark with a point of her own. Both girls can take credit for the next score as a strike from Elena took a deflection off Saoirse to find its way to the back of the net to take the lead, we built on this with a goal from Saoirse before Cobh went down and got a goal of their own but we came back to get another point through Saoirse and a goal from Elena to leave us ahead 3-6 to 3-1 we added another two points before Cobh added a goal and a point to leave us a head by one before Elena and Chloe added two more points with minutes to play. Unfortunately the referee’s decision to award a clash ball instead of an indirect free near our goal was to prove our down fall as Cobh managed to press until the ball ended up in the net with the last score of the game to leave the game all square 3:8 to 5:2!

This was a very physical game for the girls and will stand to them going forward. They deserve a lot of praise for keeping going for the whole match especially as a number of girls took heavy knocks. Team on the night was Zoe Whelan, Lorna McCarthy, Aoife ONeill, Chloe Motherway, Aine O'Driscoll, Chloe Walsh, Niamh O'Connor, Elena Kelleher, Emer Cowhig, Saoirse Burns and Amy McCarthy.
We've a busy week ahead as we play Dungourney in the semi final of the Imokily competition. While our U12s will travel to Thurles on Friday to take part in Caman to Thurles.
