Minor County A Final

posted 5 Nov 2012, 06:14 by Pro Killeagh Camogie
Our hopes were high as we headed to Castle Rd. on Sunday 4th to contest the minor A County Final against Glen Rovers. Having won the B title last year it was great for us to be contesting this final.
Glen Rovers opened the scoring with a point, hannah Looney equaled it very quickly. The Glen replied but a long run by our great captain Aoife Walsh leveled the game again.Great defensive work by Nora Walsh saw us curtail the Glen and Leah Mcevoy and Hannah upped the scoreboard. Hannah then set our hopes high with a great goal, and a lovely pass from Ciara O Connor to Leah got us another point.Despite these great scores we had a number of chances that we wasted and would cost us dearly later on.Glen Rovers got the last score of the half to leave us 1-5 to 3 points ahead.
We knew The Glen would come back fighting and the wind was against us in the second half so we had to be determined.
Leah opened the scoring of the second half with a point from a free. The glen had 2 points and then disaster struck they had two goals in quick succession and despite how hard we fought after this we could never get a grip of the game.Leah pointed,The glen got a succession of frees which they pointed,Leah goaled to close  the gap to 3 points and we hoped we could force a draw, sadly it was not to be as the final score read 2-10 to 2-7.The hard work of Mattie,JP ,Tadgh and the girls did not pay off.
Despite the absence of a trophy a lovely evening was had by all in the GAA Complex. Many thanks to all those who made this possible.and thank you also to the many people that made the journey to Cork to cheer on the girls.

Many of these girls will line out again in U16 championship next weekend against Newtownshandrum and we wish them the very best of luck.
