Killeagh U14 Vs Ballinhassig

posted 12 May 2014, 12:32 by Pro Killeagh Camogie

After coming off the wrong side of two gallant performances to end their interest in the Feile for this year, our U14’s took to the field in Killeagh on Mon the 5th May to play Ballinhassig in their second league game of the year. This was very much a game of two halves. Ballinhassig were quick out of the blocks and before Killeagh had a chance to get to grips with the match they were three goals down. Playing into a strong wind the Killeagh backs found it very tough going and got no breaks. Ballinhassig forward took full advantage of all the play in their half and thanks to the great finishing of their full forward went in at half time with a lead of 7:1 to 0:0.

Our girls were downbeat at half time but it was important they didn’t give up and were sent out for the second half with the instruction to lift their game and win the second half. And lift their game they did they got the first score of the second half thanks to a well taken free from Joanna Keniry. This was followed up by a great strike from Aoife Treacy which found the back of the net. Our backs seemed to get more of a grip with their opposition and held them to only one score in this half, a goal which just about creped over the line. Killeagh came back up the field and another great strike from Aoife Treacy again found the back of the net and there was still time for Joanna Keniry to find the top corner with another free to leave the final score 8:1 to 3:1 in Ballinhassig’s favour.

It is a credit to this young team that they never give up no matter what the score and were rewarded for this in the second half. Hopefully it won’t be long before they get a win. Panel on the night was Orla Cowhig, Aimee Kearney, Sarah Roche, Grainne Landers, Saoirse Burns, Aoife Treacy, Aine O’Driscoll, Chloe Walsh, Elena Kelleher, Megan Murphy (Capt.), Kari  McEvoy, Joanna Keniry, Rachel Treacy, Aoife O’Neill, Chloe Motherway, Laura Smiddy, Emer Cowhig, Niamh O’Connor, Abby Bulman.
