Killeagh U14 v Blackrock

posted 25 Apr 2014, 15:37 by Pro Killeagh Camogie

Our U14’s played their first league game of the year at home to Blackrock on Thurs. 24th. We started off very well but despite dominating possession we failed to take our chances and we got caught on the hop when Blackrock struck first with a goal on six minutes. The game even upped after this but Blackrock were more clinical and added on another point on 13 mins. Our girls were finally rewarded for their efforts on 21 minutes when Aisling Tyrell scored a great individual goal to go in at half time 1 point down, 1.1 to 1 goal.

We drew breath at half time and went back out determined in the second half. Unfortunately Blackrock got two early frees that they put over to extend their lead to 3 points. Our girls kept going and when Joanna Keniry found the back of the net the scores were level with ten minutes left to play. Try as we might to get the decisive score we were met by a very impressive Blackrock goalie. A draw seemed inevitable but our luck was out when Blackrock hit a bullet of a goal that nobody would have stopped. We never gave up but unfortunately the win went to Blackrock with a score of 2-3 to 2 goals. This was a great performance from a very young team with a lot of girls taking the step up from U12 in their strides hopefully they will continue to improve in the coming matches.

The panel on the night was Aoife Treacy (Capt.) Chloe Motherway, Sarah Roche, Aoife O’Neill, Saoirse Burns, Chloe Walsh, Aine O’Driscoll, Alannah Budds, Elena Kelleher, Joanna Keniry, Kari McEvoy, Megan Murphy, Aisling Tyrell, Aimee Kearney, Niamh O’Connor, Grainne Landers, Ava Cunningham, Therese Keniry and Kate Gould.
