Having registered two wins from two against Carrigtwohill and Castlemartyr in the opening rounds of the league attention turned to the Feile for our U14s. We hosted their group of the Feile on Sun. 26th with Ballinora, Sliabh Rua and Eire Og travelling too us. The first games threw in at 10:30 with Ballinora up first. Ballinora started the quicker with a goal while our girls were still waking up. We were quick to reply with Aine O’Driscoll finding the back of the net with an unstoppable shot a sign of things to come from her. The game evened out a bit after this with both teams registering a couple of points Elena and Orla with ours before Ballinora struck another goal just before half time to leave them up a goal at half time. We played a lot better in the second half but only managed to convert one chance through Joanna with Aine and Joanna both being unlucky with other chances while Ballinora picked off another two points to win the game 2:4 to 2:2. We were disappointed after the game as we knew we had the beating of them but there wasn’t much time to wallow as Eire Og were up next at 11:20. We were very dominant in the first half of this game but again failed to convert our chances and went in at half time level 1:1 apiece. Eire Og made a blistering start to the second half registering three quick goals before our girls got a handle on things and got a goal of their own again through Aine before a nasty injury to Joanna Keniry led to a break in play. Eire Og tagged on another two points before the end to win 4:3 to 2:1. In our last game we came up against Sliabh Rua who like ourselves had been beaten in their first two matches. We started strongly with Aine picking off a hat trick of goals before Sliabh Rua got a goal of their own; we added another point before Sliabh Rua picked up their second goal. To leave the half time score 3:1 to 2:0 in our favour. We made a few changes in the second half to ensure everyone got a run and to give some of the girls a rest but we still held our own and added 1:1 to Sliabh Rua’s two goals to run out winners 4:2 to 4:0. This was a great experience for our girls and with a bit more luck the results could have gone our way but it wasn’t to be our day. Thanks to the three travelling clubs who made the day a very enjoyable and sporting affair and best wishes to Eire Og who go forward from the group to the next stage. Wishing a speedy recovery to Joanna who hopefully won’t be out too long with the injury she picked up. It’s back to the league next for the girls where they will play St. Catherine’s at home on Monday 4th May at 7pm. Panel for the three matches was Orla Cowhig, Saoirse Burns, Joanna Keniry, Chloe Walsh, Chloe Motherway, Grainne Landers, Aoife O’Neill, Elena Kelleher, Sarah Roche, Aimee Kearney, Aine O’Driscoll, Rebecca Manning, Aisling Tyrell, Ava Cunningham, Niamh O’Connor, Abby Bulman, Chloe O’Donovan, Kate Gould, Rebecca Sheehan, Amy McCarthy and Anna Sheehan |
