Our 29 strong minor’s panel travelled to Castle road on Saturday to contest the Minor A league Final. Having suffered many cruel defeats in recent years, this bunch of girls were determined to start the year on a winning streak. The management (Mattie Tracey & Brian Sigerson) had instilled positioning in the girls and this stood them well in the difficult task ahead of them. Kilbrittan/Timoleague opened the scoring with a point and it was quickly replied to by Hannah Looney who had 2 pts on the scoreboard within 10 mins. Play swung from side to side at a very fast pace and all the girls giving of their best. Kilbrittan/Tim had point number 2 and Sinead Landers replied to it. A long range ball went to the back of the net for Kilbrittan/Timoleague and it upped the pressure on us. After a long run up the field Hannah pointed. Young Ciara Barry had a great goal and Kate Mary Cullinae had a super save. Kilbrittan/Timoleague finished the half with a point to leave the score 1-4 to 1-3 in our favour. Words of encouragement were issued at half time and the girls came back fighting. A great start with a goal from Hannah. Chloe Sigerson pointed a free and followed it up by a goal. Niamh O'Farrell was a tower of strength in the backline (making her a very worthy Captain). Leah McEvoy was everywhere on the field. Chloe had 2 further points. Kate Mary saved a penalty. What more could you ask, the excitement on the bench was mighty as final whistle blew. Kilbrittan/Timoleasgue were held scoreless in the second half. A 3-7 to 1-3 victory for Killeagh after a very tough high standard game of camogie. Each and every girl giving it their all to become Minor League Champions 2015. The first of what we hope will be many trophies for the year. It was great to see so many parents take time out to come to support the girls. The winning trophy was presented to Niamh O Farrell by Shelia Golden (see County Board) amidst raptures applause. Our thanks to Brian (Blondie) Barry for organising the home coming food for the girls. |
