Red FM SHL: Killeagh 1-18 Youghal 0-13
Pairc Ui Chinneide welcomed a huge crowd to its fabulous facilities for the Red FM Cork senior hurling tie between Killeagh and Youghal. A special word of thanks and praise to the volunteers who managed the visit of over 250 vehicles to the grounds and who organised a safe and orderly entrance and exit without too much trouble to visitors and neighbours alike. The pitch was in superb condition and despite the sometimes poor weather recently and during the game, it stood up to the test of an eagerly awaited and well-fought game. The game started with both teams trying hard to gain the advantage and with five minutes gone, Youghal were in front by the narrowest of margins with the score at 0-2 to 0-01. They both continued to trade points in a tight game but after twelve minutes, Killeagh gained the upper hand when good pressure paid off in the form of a goal from Andy Walsh to leave the scores at 1-02 to 0-04. On twenty minutes the teams were level with Killeagh 1-03 to Youghal’s 0-06. On twenty-eight minutes they both added two points each to their tally to be level again, Killeagh 1-05 to Youghal 0-08. But Killeagh finished the half in better form by adding two more points to lead at half time with the score Killeagh 1-07 to Youghal 0-08. The second half resumed when the teams emerged from the dressing rooms and they both scored two points each to leave the scores at Killeagh 1-09 to Youghal 0-10 on six minutes. Killeagh were gaining the advantage and on fourteen minutes were ahead by four points with the scores Killeagh 1-12 to Youghal 0-11. On fifteen minutesYoughal lost their corner back through a second yellow card and so went Youghals strong challenge in the game as Killeagh began to stretch them in all directions. After twenty minutes play of the second half, Killeagh had 1-14 on the board to Youghals 0-12 points and five minutes later had added two more points to their tally. By the end of the game, Killeagh added two further points to Youghal’s solitary point to leave the scores at the end, Killeagh 1-18 to Youghal 0-13.
