SENIOR.

Our senior team continue to train and play SUMMER CUP games. To date we have played and beaten Glen Rovers and Douglas and drawn with Sarsfields. Senior Championship is on Mon 22nd in Carrigtwohill against Ballincollig.

JUNIOR.

This year the club decided to enter a JUNIOR C team. The plan behind this decision was to create more playing time for our teenage girls and those as yet not making our senior team. We travelled to Ballygiblin with a tight panel.Being their first time playing together as a team proved a little difficult for the girls. They gave of their best but the end result was a loss .5.4 to 2.4 However its upwards and onwards and we line out against Cobh on July 21st in Killeagh.

Well done to Laura Treacy and Hannah Looney who are part of the Cork senior panel who look forward to playing Offaly in the All Ireland quarter final. Well done all to Brian Barry who is part of the management.

Kate Mary Culnane is part of the Cork U16 B panel, Chloe Sigerson is part of the Cork U16 A panel. Good luck to you both girl in your games.

Saoirse Burns had the honour of representing her school (Inch) and her club at the Last Munster Final to be played in Paric Ui Chaoimh. A day to remember.

U13

Our u13s had mixed fortunes in their two games this week. On wed we played Erin’s own at home in the Imokily comp. The game was slow to get going after a delay in the start time but Erin’s own registered their first score with a good goal. This seemed to wake our girls up and the registered the next three scores with points from Elena, Aimee and Saoirse before some slack play on defence saw Erin’s own in for another goal just before half time to leave the score 2 goals to 3 points. We started a lot quicker in the second half and our pressure finally paid off when Elena found the back of the net. This was followed up with a goal from Saoirse when she was first to react when the goalie pulled off a great save to kick the ball over the line we added another point after this from Chloe Walsh to go 4 points and it remained this way til the end thanks to a great defensive effort to keep Erin’s Own out. Final score Killeagh 2:4 Erin’s own 2:0.
On Saturday we travelled the short distance to Castlemartyr to renew our rivalry. Playing against a strong breeze in the first half we failed to register any score as supply was limited to the forwards while Castlemartyr took all their chances to be up 3:2 to no score at half time. We regrouped at half time and went out determined to give a better performance. We started well with Elena finding the back of the net with a ground strike but unfortunately this was undone when Castlemartyr scored a goal after working the ball up from the puck out. We had some good possession up in our forwards but failed to convert from play or placed balls before Elena found the net again with a well taken free. This was to be our final score while Castlemartyr added on another 1:1 despite some great saves from Niamh o Connor to finish up on the wrong side of a score line of 5:3 to 2:0.

Panel for the two games was Laura Smiddy, Megan O Donovan, Sarah roche, Chloe Motherway, chloe walsh, Aisling Tyrell, Emer Cowhig, Elena Kelleher, niamh O'Connor, ava Cunningham, Amy McCarthy, Saoirse burns, chloe o Donovan, Sarah Smiddy Zoe Whelan Miriam Keniry Therese Keniry Lorna McCarthy Kate Gould and. Aimee Kearney.

The u13s got their season underway with a visit to near neighbours Youghal on Tues evening last in the Imokily league. Killeagh got off to a very strong start but lacked the killer ball and unfortunately Youghal first attack produced a goal for them to get the first score of the game. Killeagh went back up the field and thanks to some good play from Joanna Keniry got their first score when Aisling Tyrell followed a ball in and got it over the line. The game evened out for a bit after this and there was a break for some much needed water before Youghal struck for their second score to go 2 goals to 1 up Killeagh kept pressing but couldn't add to their first score before Youghal added a point to go in 2:1 to 1 goal at half time. Our girls were feeling the heat but were determined to take their chances in the second half. There was a bit of reshuffling which saw Saoirse burns go into full forward a position she wouldn't be accustomed too but she wasn't long getting settled and soon had the ball on the back of the Youghal net to bring it to a one point game. The girls tried to keep the ball up in the forwards and eventually got a break when Joanna was fouled which led to another water break before she kept her nerve to slot the ball over the bar to level the match 2:1 a piece. More good play by our forwards led to a 45 which Joanna despatched to the back of the net to give us the lead. Despite lots of pressure Killeagh failed to add to our tally and were very grateful to keeper Laura Smiddy who pulled off two great saves towards the end to maintain our lead and to see us run out winners on a score line of 3:1 to 2:1. This was some of the girl’s first win of the season but with the determination they showed I'm hopeful it’ll be the first of many.
