Killeagh Senior Camogie team had a successful first outing in the league as they defeated a strong Ballincollig team on Saturday March 24th in Killeagh. An all round team effort saw Killeagh emerge victorious on a score line of 1.07 to 0.06pts.
Our second league game in Pairc uí Chinnaide was played on Friday April 13th and it was a much tougher affair as we faced All Ireland club finalists of 2011 Inniscarra.
Killeagh started well and had the first score on the board through Angela Walsh. A skilful and fit Inniscarra team worked hard and at half time the score was even at 1.4 a piece. The loss of the hard working Bríd Stack in mid field through injury would have a major impact on the Killeagh girls in the second half.
The 2nd half however was all Inniscarra as they dominated the play despite the best efforts of the magnificent Maire Smiddy, who was ably assisted by Niamh O Keeffe and Laura Tracy. The Final score was Inniscarra 2.11 Killeagh 1.4
Killeagh’s second half performance was very disappointing and their failure to score in the second half is a concern for the players and management. The one significant plus for the club was the emergence of our young players who have acquitted themselves well in the senior set – up since the start of the year.
However hope springs eternal and the Killeagh girls and management have the opportunity to perform for a full hour on Friday April 20th as we take on St Catherines.
Best of luck to all involved and the club would like to wish Bríd Stack all the best as she recovers from injury.
